Housing providers: a valid result means a licensed clinician issued the letter and it has not expired or been revoked. You may still ask the tenant for a copy of the signed letter itself.
An ESA letter supports reasonable-accommodation requests for housing. It is not a service-animal certification, it does not grant public-access rights, and since the Department of Transportation rule of 11 January 2021 it does not apply to air travel. Federal enforcement narrowed further in May 2026, so protection now depends substantially on your state. Approval is at the discretion of the licensed professional who reviews your assessment.
